Hispanic Resource Link "Yo si puedo" (Yes I Can)
Dropout prevention program
We are a Community based not for profit organization committed to connecting Hispanic and other minority youth with responsible adults in a positive way, by implementing structured activities that promote character development and positive values through community service and constructive use of their free time.
During the past five (5) years the dropout rate in the Orange County public schools exceeded 50% of all entering freshmen. More than half of the students fail to complete high school. Traditionally, Latino and Afro-American dropout rates are significantly higher than Anglo and other ethnic populations. Hispanic Resource Link developed these programs as a tool for creative and innovative ways to curve this demoralizing trend that is affecting our younger generation.
At the heart of Yo Si Puedo teaching philosophy is the Search Institute's framework of 40 Developmental Assets, which are positive experiences and personal qualities that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. |
